Glossary TermsAlgorithm In mathematics, computer science, and related subjects, an algorithm is an effective method for solving a problem using a finite sequence of instructions. Anonymity Anonymity is derived from the Greek word ἀνωνυμία, anonymia, meaning "without a name" or "namelessness". Anonymous Web Browsing Anonymous web browsing is browsing the World Wide Web while hiding the user's IP address and any other personally identifiable information from the websites that one is visiting. Application Software Application software, also known as software application, application or app, is computer software designed to help the user to perform a singular or multiple related specific tasks. Bandwidth In computer networking, bandwidth is a bit rate measure of available or consumed data communication resources expressed in bits/second or multiples of it (kilobits/s, megabits/s etc.) CERT Computer Emergency Response Team is a name given to expert groups that handle computer security incidents. Most groups append the abbreviation CERT or CSIRT to their designation where the latter stands for Computer Security Incident Response Team. Certificate Authority In cryptography, a certificate authority or certification authority (CA) is an entity that issues digital certificates for use by other parties. Cipher In cryptography, a cipher (or cypher) is an algorithm for performing encryption or decryption — a series of well-defined steps that can be followed as a procedure. An alternative, less common term is encipherment. Ciphertext In cryptography, ciphertext is the result of the process (known as encryption) of transforming information (referred to as plaintext) using an algorithm (called cipher) to make it unreadable Classical Cipher A cipher is a means of concealing a message, where letters of the message are substituted or transposed for other letters, letter pairs, and sometimes for many letters.
